Pikatelkutli: The Little Goddess Who Hums Like a Bee
By Merida Paz — 10 hand-illustrated spreads.
The Story
When the grown-ups were busy debating the gods, Pikatel was watching a seed push through the dirt.
Pikatelkutli is a tender, bilingual fable that blends Mesoamerican cosmology, nature spirituality, and the radical power of being present. It follows Pikatel — the granddaughter of an Aztec wise woman (tlamatini) — who transforms into a tiny, glowing spirit (tonalli) made of moss and twigs.
She becomes a guardian of the small, the overlooked, and the unfinished things in the world. She doesn’t lecture. She doesn’t fix. She simply hums like a bee, presses a smooth stone into your hand, and reminds you that you are loved.
Why I Wrote This Book
I am a survivor. I have lived through the kind of darkness that makes you feel completely finished.
But I wrote this book because I know the truth: love and goodness survive by adapting. Like a sapling growing from a crack in the stone wall, we find our middle place. We grow.
For children, this is a gentle, beautifully textured tale about a magical forest spirit who loves them. For adults — especially survivors, the neurodivergent, and anyone who has ever felt “unfinished” — this is a story about the survival of indigenous wisdom, the beauty of imperfection, and the magic of being seen when you thought you were lost.
The Just Trust Promise
When you buy Pikatelkutli, you are not just buying a book. You are joining the hive.
Every single purchase directly funds The Purple Cauldron and supports our first project, Renacer, which provides real, life-saving help to victims and survivors of domestic violence in Mexico.
“Pura luz y puro chile.” Pure light and pure chili. That is what we are made of.
